Amelia’s Profile

Posted at 4:07 pm January 31, 2008 by Amelia

amelia-pic.jpgHi, my name is Amelia. I am a tae-kwon-do kicking, salsa dancing, conservation enthusiast. Tae-kwon do has been my greatest passion since age four. Competition has been a key part of my training, anywhere from local tournaments in high school gymnasiums to the Junior Olympics in Orlando, Florida. I now teach children and young adults of different ranks. One of the most rewarding experiences is watching one’s students grow and learn self-confidence from the basics you teach them.

Dana’s Profile

ProfileHey guys! My name is Dana and I am a senior in high school. I have a younger sister, two best friends, and an amazing boyfriend; all graciously put up with my craziness and love for all sorts of animals. I spend my Saturdays volunteering with the Baja Animal Sanctuary helping homeless dogs find homes. I used to play soccer but a few years ago I tore my meniscus and ACL (look it up!). Boy, was that painful! Nowadays I dedicate myself to school, volunteering, and spending time with my family and friends and boyfriend.

Kelsey’s Profile

Posted at 4:05 pm January 31, 2008 by Kelsey

zooprofilepic_edited-1.jpgMy name is Kelsey and I’m a senior in high school in San Diego County. I’m extremely indecisive. When I was a toddler, I played softball. When I was in kindergarten, I did dance. When I was in elementary school, I did horseback riding. When I was in middle school, I did soccer. In high school, I started cheerleading, and that’s what I’m still interested in today. My life has never stayed constant for long. I moved from Los Angeles to Georgia as a toddler and to San Diego a few years later. My parents divorced and later remarried other people, and I have lived in a total of 10 houses; change has always been a huge aspect of my life.

Lauren’s Profile

Posted at 4:04 pm January 31, 2008 by Lauren

ProfileWearing knee-high rubber boots as protection from the deep, squelching mud, I hiked through the pristine rain forests of Costa Rica during a trip there last summer. The rich plant life tinted my vision with green, occasional calls of howler monkeys pierced through the jabber of exotic birds, and the air held a thick dampness created by the innumerable lives around me. Since the ninth grade when I joined Conservation Corps, a conservation advocacy and action program at the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, I have firmly dedicated my life to promoting the conservation of endangered species and of the natural world. Traveling to Costa Rica and being immersed in breathtaking rain forests has given my passion more drive and inspiration.

Lindsay’s Profile

ProfileAs a child I spent numerous afternoons with my grandparents. Naturally I was always curious about my grandpa’s outdoor ventures. I fondly remember him tending to his garden and caring for the neighborhood stray cats, one of which would always become his companion. His enjoyment in the outdoors left a lasting impression on me that sparked my fervor for the environment. Since his passing in 2005, I have kept his passion aflame.

Natalie’s Profile

Posted at 4:02 pm January 31, 2008 by Natalie

natalieprofilepic-copy.jpgTide pooling in La Jolla, singing while playing the piano, and working out in the dojo are a few of the things that I do to relax. A great Saturday night is a foreign film with my friends and ice cream, or an evening spent at a Poetry Slam. My name is Natalie and I support the idea that you are what you eat. I say this philosophy should be taken well past food consumption. So, I surround myself with people I admire, classes that challenge, and exercise that is good for the body and soul so that I develop into an individual that is always ready for the next thing to learn.
