Intern Veronica’s Profile

Veronica’s PictureI accidentally stumbled across the Zoo InternQuest after my best friend informed me about the program. The internship sounded like a great opportunity, and I immediately decided to apply. At first, I thought that the internship was just a study of animals at the Zoo, but I found that it was a much better fit when I realized the huge focus on conservation.

My name is Veronica, and I am a senior at a high school in sunny San Diego. I have one sister, Janessa, who, as much as I hate to admit it, is already as mature as I am and taller still, despite the fact that she is only in the 6th grade. I am also lucky enough to have two wonderful parents, Janet and Nikhil, who have always supported me, whether it means hauling me back and forth from the Zoo or just staying up until three in the morning to help me with my homework.

The daughter of the past president of Algalita Marine Research Foundation (AMRF), I am a born and bred conservationist. AMRF focuses on the growing epidemic of plastic pollution in our beautiful oceans, and it is in their cause that I discovered my passion. However, it has only been within the last year or so that I really decided to attempt to build a career out of the study of the effects of plastics and the possible alternatives. Right from the beginning, Zoo InternQuest has helped me learn more about conservation efforts that are taking place all over the world. I am sure that this opportunity will help all of us interns fulfill our goals, whether we plan to be conservationists, biologists, veterinarians, or just plain old nature lovers.

I am on the Zoo InternQuest Conservation Team.

    Wow!

You are awesome, Veronica. I know that someday you will make a big impact in preserving all the beautiful and wondrous things our planet has to offer. Keep up the good work, and watch out for that lion (she looks like she may bite!).

Your cousin and plain old nature lover,
    Sunil

    Hi Veronica,

Sounds like a great program. I feel much better knowing that smart people like you will be working on conservation and other environmental issues that plague us all.

    Keep up the great work.

    Hey Veronica,

You go, girl! I can see that you are a rising star with the animals and the earth :) What a terrific experience for you as your passion for conservation grows. I must admit I’m feeling a little guilty for purchasing a case of water bottles yesterday :( The battle is convenience vs. conservation. I promise to refill, reuse, and recycle!

    Have fun,
    Lee Ann

    Hello Veronica,

I’ll be sure to share the link to your posting with my own two girls, Paige and Camille, whom I’m sure will be inspired by your passion for conservation. Camille, in particular, will wonder how, and when (she’s only 9 years old) she can join you there to care for this World’s wonderful diversity of creatures.

    Have fun,

    Bruce Wilcox
