Intern Leslie’s Profile

Leslie’s PictureMy name is Leslie and I am a senior in high school. I currently reside in San Diego, home of some of my favorite things. This is an ideal place for me to live, as I am in love with nice mild weather and beaches. When I am not leisurely strolling around outside, I can be found engaged in activities such as playing volleyball or running. I am passionate about both; I was previously on my high school volleyball team and will be starting my fourth year on the school track team this spring. Reading, cooking, and watching movies are a few more of my interests. I try to involve my friends and parents in such activities as often as possible. I am an only child and my cousins all live across the country or in completely different countries, so my time with family is often restricted to spending time with my parents, but it has strengthened our bond on some levels.

Once I graduate from high school I plan to study biology or psychology in college, possibly even double major in both subjects. Sciences, especially biology, are fascinating to me, and directly relate to my preferred future career. Since elementary school I have dreamed about becoming a veterinarian and one day owning my own practice. This was inspired by my love of animals, and became a definite interest of mine when I got the opportunity to inject a diabetic cat with its daily dose of insulin. That was a defining moment of sorts in terms of my career choice. While my determination to go into veterinary science has remained strong throughout the years following that incident, my increased knowledge of other biology related careers has caused me to expand my horizons in terms of my investigation. After taking a behind-the-scenes tour of the Birch Aquarium I have considered going into marine biology, and I hope Zoo InternQuest will give me insight into more careers that deal directly with animals.

I am on the Zoo InternQuest Photography Team.
