Intern Keesha’s Profile

My love of animals is one of my defining characteristics. When I was little, my teachers would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I can’t remember a time when I gave the traditional answer of “astronaut.” My response was always along the lines of a Sea World trainer or veterinarian. I also never owned a Barbie. Instead, my room was filled with stuffed animals and My Littlest Petshop toys. I currently have a dog named Bailey and a fish named Angel. In addition to my love of animals, I also love the outdoors. I can’t go a week without going for a run, surfing, playing tennis, or relaxing in the park with Bailey.
In contrast to my science side, I do have a creative outlet. I love theater and drama. Acting is one of my favorite things to do. I traveled to England in the summer of 2006 and studied at Cambridge University for four weeks. While there, I studied drama and abnormal psychology. As you might have guessed, I also love traveling. I have been to the Philippines (the country where my family is from), Italy, and I plan to spend a year abroad in Greece during college.
Some of my friends might describe me as being very involved in school. I am the co-president of a club at my school called Amnesty International. I also organized a fund-raiser last October to raise money for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. We raised over $400! It was a great success. Participating in little things like this has broadened my perspective on life and inspired me to be more active in my community. I am hoping to do big things in college and this internship is a great first step.
I will be a member of the Zoo InternQuest Conservation Team.

Keesha, thanks for introducing yourself. As an animal lover, and activist in community programs you are headed in a great direction. The Zoo Intern program should be a wonderful experience for you since you can tie together both your love of animals, and your desire to make a difference. Best wishes for your future career, and for your dedication and success being active in your community, making this world a better place for all of us who live here, people, animals, and plants.
