Kid Territory:Recipes: Snail Sandwich
Snails may
not move fast but they certainly are fascinating to watch.
Since they live in such a variety of places, you can probably
collect a few different types somewhere near you and observe
their behaviors up close.
Ingredients
A
slice of bread
Peanut
butter
Jelly
Thin
pretzel sticks
You'll also need
A
plastic knife
A
plate
A rolling pin
Cut the crusts off of a slice of bread (you can eat the crust as you work!). Roll out the slice with the rolling pin a few times until flattened. Spread peanut butter on one half of the flattened bread and jelly on the other half. Roll the bread up into a tight tube. Slice the tube into about 3/4-inch slices. Makes about 5 snail slices. Take pretzel sticks and break them in half and insert into the rolls to make antennas and enjoy your snail sandwich!
Here's some fun stuff about snails!
Snails come in hundreds of sizes, shapes, and colors. They live in water and on land. Their hard shells help protect them from enemies. All snails have a muscular "foot" which helps them to move along. They secrete slime which leaves a shiny path for them to travel on. They are a part of the mollusk family known as gastropods or stomach-foots.
