Kid Territory:Recipes: Kangaroo Kabobs
Hop to it and invite
your friends over for a Kangaroo Kabob party. It's a perfect choice
for an evening snack while watching a show about Australia. After
all, that is the kangaroo's home. The kangaroo uses its strong legs
to jump and its long tail for balance. When a kangaroo jumps, both feet
leave the ground at the same time. When it lands, both feet hit the
ground at the same time.
Ingredients
Bright-colored,
sturdy plastic straws to use as individual kabob skewers
Any
type of fruit, precut in hunks (oranges, watermelon, strawberries,
bananas)
Rainbow marshmallows, large size
Pretzels (loops, not sticks)
Put a large rainbow-colored marshmallow at one end of your straw skewer to keep the goodies from sliding off one end while you load up the other end. Add the fruit and pretzels, mixing up the order for a more interesting kabob. Put the other large marshmallow on the end of the kabob and nibble on the goodies in between! When you're all done, gobble up the marshmallow stoppers.
Now you have some energy to try a few kangaroo jumps yourself. Can you land with both feet at the same time? How much distance can you cover? Have all your guests join in a kangaroo jumping contest. If their feet don't land at the same time, their jump doesn't count.
