Kid Territory:Recipes: Ape for Apples
What better place to start than with the ape family. Gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees are some of the most interesting animals to watch at the Zoo. The gorilla is the largest of the apes and is an herbivore. I think apples are a great choice for our first recipe. (You may need a grownup to help with this one.)
Ingredients
5 or 6 |
apples |
1 |
tablespoon cinnamon |
6 |
tablespoons sugar |
1 |
cup water |
Vanilla ice cream |
Peel the skin off the apples and cut them into small pieces. Mix all the ingredients but the vanilla ice cream together in a saucepan and heat on low, stirring often and until the mixture becomes syrupy. Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes and then pour over a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a bowl. This is one dessert the whole family will go "ape" about!
Did you ever read the book Ten Apples Up On Top, by T. Le Sieg? I can't cook with apples without trying to juggle a few first, but I know I can't put ten on my head and ride a bike!
