Kid Territory: Crafts: Nature's Sun Catcher

Use these materials to make your sun catcher.
Here's a project you can make using something your parents usually throw away, and some natural items you can find outside your home.
What you need
Old air filter from a furnace
Pliers
Contac® paper
Scissors
Ribbon
Hole punch
Small suction cup
What you do
1. Take apart the filter to get the aluminum rings.
2. Using the pliers, cut and make a design with any number of rings.
3. Cut out two pieces of Contac paper to fit over and under the ring design.
4. Now, take a walk outside. What natural materials can you find on the ground that will fit into the rings you cut out? Look for feathers, flower petals, leaves, snake shed, seeds, and more.
5. Peel off one piece of Contac paper and lay it on a table with the sticky side up.
6. Put the rings on the sticky side and arrange your natural materials in each ring. Press down on them so they will stick to the paper.
7. Peel the other piece of Contac paper and carefully place it on top of your design, then press down on it to make it stick.
8. Cut away any unnecessary Contac paper.
9. Punch a hole through the top, thread a piece of ribbon through it, and hang it on the suction cup in a sunny window. Watch as light shines through your sun catcher!
