Education:Science Projects: The Power of Wind

Dr. Zoolittle tries the wind experiment Did you know that condors cannot fly without wind? Yup—that's a fact. They need wind to help them fly from roosting spot to food and back. Here’s an experiment that shows you just how powerful wind can be.

What you need

 • An empty 2-liter bottle
 • A small piece of paper crumpled into a ball

What you do

1. Put the ball of paper in the opening of the bottle.
2. With all your might, try to blow the paper into the bottle. Blow hard, like you were trying to blow out birthday candles. Any luck?

You can never blow the paper into the bottle. The air you blow goes into the bottle, hits the back of the bottle and blows the paper right into your face. Try it now with a friend. Bet them a candy bar that they cannot blow the paper into the bottle. You will win lots of candy bars. With all that candy, remember to brush your teeth before you go to bed!

Catch Dr. Zoolittle in an entertaining show in the San Diego Zoo's Children's Zoo daily during the summer and every weekend and school holiday.
