Education:Science Projects: What’s the Strongest?

The egg-straordinary design of the egg allows it to support a lot of weight without cracking.

What animal is one of the strongest in the world? Did you guess elephant? Well, they are the biggest animal on land AND they have so many muscles in their trunk that they are able to pick up a huge, heavy log. But elephants are NOT the stongest animal in the world.

How about cheetahs? Fast but not strong.
Alligators? Nah!
Humans? Not even close!

And the winner is....drumroll please...THE ANT!

An ant can carry 5 to50 times its own weight (depending on the species) on its back. You would never see an elephant carrying 50 elephants on its back!

Do you want to know something else in nature that is really super strong? Strong beyond belief? Maybe even stronger than an ANT?

It begins with an "E"...comes in all shapes and sizes...and ends with "GG." Yup—an EGG is super stong!

Try this experiment:

What you need

1 full carton of eggs (12 eggs inside)
An adult to watch in amazement

What you do

1. Take the carton of eggs (with all 12 eggs inside) and put them on the fancy carpet in the living room (or anywhere else!).
2. Now gently stand on the carton of eggs (No jumping! That's cheating.)
3. What happens? Nothing! The eggs are so strong that they can support your weight. Isn't that amazing?

As always, make sure you have an adult present to do this experiment!!!!
